Indian Bayou is located near Butte La Rose, and contains some of the country's most productive wildlife habitat. It's a paradise for hunters, fishermen, boaters, nature photographers and outdoor enthusiasts. Now Indian Bayou is a place for hiking enthusiasts, too, who can enjoy part of the world's largest freshwater swamp wilderness. The Corps of Engineers has mapped out a network of 13 miles of trails are designated specifically for hiking.
Pack & Paddle will host this leisurely hike on 4-5 miles of trails. Indian Bayou offers a great opportunity to view scenic areas of hardwood forests, cypress swamps and bayous. The area also contains forested wetlands and shallow lakes that provide excellent feeding and resting areas for wading birds like the great blue heron and great egret. The group be in search for amphibians, butterflies, birds and other wildlife. After the hike, participants will share a meal prepared by Hub City Diner.
