Vermilionville’s free showing of the documentary “Bag It” will take place 6:30 p.m. Jan. 30, as part of the monthly Les Vues Free Film Series. No Waste Louisiana representatives Amanda Waddle and Catherine Schoeffler Comeaux (a BVD Commissioner) will be curating this event, which will include a post-film discussion, door prizes, a reusable shopping bag swap, finger food and drinks (BYOC — bring your own cup).
“Bag It,” a 2010 film by Suzan Beraza, follows “everyman” Jeb Berrier, an average American who decides to take a closer look at our cultural love affair with plastics. Berrier’s journey starts with simple questions: Are plastic bags really necessary? What are plastic bags made from? What happens to plastic bags after they are discarded?
No Waste Louisiana is an environmental education organization that works with individuals, businesses and governments to reduce needless and avoidable waste. Two of its charter members, Waddle and Schoeffler Comeaux, invite the public to enjoy this entertaining look at plastic, but they especially encourage you to bring a friend.
