Pack & Paddle invites you on an overnight paddling and camping excursion to a remote, "secret" island in Lake Chicot State Park.
Carl Schexnayder, president of the Lafayette Paddle Club, will guide paddlers through the waters of Lake Chicot to the site on Saturday morning. Upon arrival, camp will be set up where there is ample room for tents. The ample amount of trees makes it easy for hammock campers to make their bed. Sleeping spots are plentiful and privacy is easily found. Carl will then guide paddlers through one of the most secluded areas of the lake; flooded woods filled with cypress and tupelo trees and where wood duck like to nestle.
Following the paddle, paddlers will retire to camp where Charlee cooks up her Grandmother’s Chicken and Sausage Gumbo. The smell of Carl’s famous One Pot Grits and Eggs wakes you in the morning, and as the sun rises over the island, you will embark on your final paddle to the take-out at the North Landing.
