The annual Wood Stork and Wading Bird event at Sherburne WMA South Farm, just west of Baton Rouge, is "come on your own" field trip at one of the best birding spots in the Baton Rouge area.
Gates will be open at 7 a.m. and remain open until noon, but EARLY IS BEST. Scopes will be available, but please bring binoculars, sunscreen, hats, and water; chairs are optional. Rides will be offered to and from the observation platform.
***DIRECTIONS TO THE FARM: Take I-10 to the Ramah Exit (Exit 135). Head north for ~250 feet and turn left onto Frontage Road (at the small bait stand/store). Continue ~400 feet and take the first road to the right. Continue across the bridge and turn right onto the levee road, which is a gravel road. Drive approximately one mile- or until you see the South Farm sign- then cross over the levee and enter the parking lot***
