"Bug out" with some of the top entomologists and insect enthusiasts in the state! View displays of live and preserved insect specimens and get up-close with hands-on, live insect exhibits. The event is held indoors and will take place rain or shine. Here's what's in store for you:
The Audubon Butterfly Garden and Insectarium will display live and preserved examples of insects from Louisiana and exotic lands.
The Louisiana State Arthropod Museum at LSU will display preserved examples of both Louisiana native and exotic insects, and will cover collecting techniques.
Steven Barney of the Beetle-Experience will show show live examples of some of Louisiana's most impressive beetles and will also display Louisiana natives, like: tarantulas, scorpions, giant centipedes and giant walking sticks.
Schoolhouse Reptiles will give an interactive presentation at 12:00, introducing and discussing some of the world's coolest reptiles.
The Urban Naturalist will have several different species of caterpillars and their host-plants on display, with some plants for sale.
Linda Auld ("The Bug Lady of New Orleans") will display caterpillars, butterflies, moths and more. Linda has been breeding butterflies for many years has spearheaded the Monarch butterfly movement in Louisiana.
