Meet at Pack & Paddle, then travel to the Lake Chicot boat launch. On this paddle trip (suitable for beginners and for families), paddlers will travel through flooded forests of cypress and tupelo, as well as along the edge of the open lake.
The woods around the lake are a combination of mixed hardwoods and pine trees providing an ideal habitat for a wide variety of birds (Bald Eagles, Great Blue Herons, Great Egrets, White Ibis, Wood Ducks, Belted Kingfishers, Cormorants, Anhinga, Common Gallinule, Pileated Woodpeckers, Red-headed Woodpeckers, Red-bellied Woodpeckers, Downy Woodpeckers, swallows, vultures, a Peregrine Falcon, and other common birds). Osprey may also be present.
Paddlers will return to the launch around 2:30 p.m., leaving time to walk the trails at the Arboretum (optional - not part of the trip) before heading home.
***$55 per person - Price Includes: Lunch on the lake, kayaks, paddles, life jackets and Guides. Required Items - water and/or gatorade and snacks as well as weather-appropriate clothing and raingear. Optional Items: Binoculars and a camera***
***Minimum Age - 12 years old. Anyone under 18 years old must be accompanied by a parent that is also signed up for the trip***
