Bryan Wagner will share the remarkable progress on this project which is dedicated to preserving, digitizing, transcribing, translating, analyzing, and publishing manuscripts related to two slave conspiracies organized at the Pointe Coupée Post in the Spanish territory of Louisiana in 1791 and 1795. The website, which he’ll share with you, uses a facing-page display to present French and Spanish manuscripts alongside original transcriptions and English translations, allowing users to search, browse, and navigate among documents, interactive maps, and network visualizations derived from a database tracking persons, places, and events.
All materials on the website appear in draft. A main purpose of this presentation is to encourage interested, informed users to participate in our project by submitting research queries, suggestions, and corrections through the website’s contextual feedback form.
As part of the project, Berkeley generously funded the preservation and digitization of the related Original Act volumes, held at the Clerk of Court’s office. Don’t miss this opportunity to see the website and to learn about a slice of our history—a piece of Pointe Coupée’s 300 Years in the Making.
