Date: March 13th to March 19th
25 artists from around the country will be spending a week painting en plein air in seven parishes in Acadiana. Plein air painting is essentially painting outside. This year’s judge is Kenn Backhaus, renowned Bucks County, PA plein air artist. The public is invited to watch people paint in action and attend the number of events scheduled for competition week.
Special Note: Masks are required for all events. Paintings will be put on display as artists bring them into the Shadows Visitor Center throughout the week. Paintings will be available for sale in the Shadows Visitor Center, as well as online at www.BiddingForGood.com/ShadowsOnTheTeche.
- March 13 at 3pm – Quick Draw competition in downtown New Iberia. Artists have 2 hours to complete a painting. Two separate categories – juried (competition artists) and non-juried.
- March 16 at 1pm – Painting Demonstration at the Paul and Lulu Hilliard University Art Museum on UL’s campus. Kenn Backhaus, this year’s judge, will be leading the demo.
- March 17 at 7:30pm – Art Talk with Kenn Backhaus at the Shadows Visitor Center on plein air painting.
- March 18 at 2pm – Painting Demonstration by Kenn Backhaus near the Shadows. Location TBA closer to event date.
- March 19 at 6:30pm – Awards Ceremony and Fine Art Sale at the Shadows Visitor Center. Awards will be announced at 7pm.
