Little Bayou Fairy Fest and Book Signing at West Baton Rouge Museum
Saturday, June 19, 2021
Port Allen – Author, Erica Ramsey-Bowen is honored to be a part of the West Baton Rouge Museum's first ever Little Bayou Fairy Fest, an event described by the author as a "Bayou Fairy Family Friendly Free Magical Saturday" (Whew! That is a mouthful!)
This is a FREE family-friendly event that will provide enchanting craft activities for local small fairies (children of all ages, wings optional) and will also showcase original sketches and paintings from the book. On Saturday, June 19th from 10:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. come join the fun and also attend a special reading and Little Bayou Fairy book signing by the Author.
THE LITTLE BAYOU FAIRY is the debut early reader chapter book and Kickstarter project by artist and writer Erica Ramsey-Bowen. The Little Bayou Fairy is a quirky fairy tale that stars a little “round and pecan-nut-brown” protagonist who lives with her family of fairies in the heart of the Atchafalaya Basin and embarks on a quest to find her place in the world. It is the fifth children's book Ramsey-Bowen has illustrated, and the first children's book she has authored AND illustrated.
Ramsey-Bowen leveraged the funding success of her Kickstarter campaign to raise awareness about the disproportionate diversity ratio in children’s literature as well as the importance of preserving the endangered beautiful wetlands of the Atchafalaya Basin.
Her investment in her imaginary world paid off: not only did the campaign fully fund, but the early teaser sketch for the book caught the attention for the Huffington Post, Canada, who reached out to interview her for an article on children’s literature diversity.*
Children of all ages can find within the whimsical pages of the lushly illustrated book many life lessons; having self-confidence, being brave in adversity, and the most important lesson of all: that God made this wide wobbly world big on purpose because everyone has a place in it.
Book soft copies are priced at $13.95, hard copies are $23.99, and a portion of each sale will benefit Atchafalaya Basinkeepers, a non-profit organization.
